1. Don’t Cherish Don't Cherish
WORDS & MUSIC BY J PETER BOLES

Chorus:
Don't be dancing with your memories
Don't hold hands with the past
Yesterday died a long time ago
And today is fading fast
Don't be looking at midnight over your shoulder
Don't cherish your regrets
Keep your face to the morning sky
You're gonna see a brand new day
I see you staring down an empty road

I was wondering what's on your mind
I can't stand to see the pain in your eyes
It kills me to see you cry
I could tell you some about the trouble and the tears
Falling from the clear blue sky
I've laid awake some nights just trying to count the miles
and the places I've left behind
Empty bottles, forgotten dreams
Broken promises of my own

Like the Lord told Lot, buddy, don't look back
What's done is done, what's gone is gone
So save some forgiveness for yourself
Shake the salt out of your shoes
Put your sorrows in a song
Send them back where they belong

(Repeat Chorus)

2. Full Moon Full Moon
WORDS & MUSIC BY J PETER BOLES

Chorus:
The full moon makes me crazy
When it's shining on the mountains
The cold wind makes me think I need
To stop and rest awhile
This thinking makes me wonder
Why I'm wandering down the dark roads
The sad songs make me cry sometimes
But still I'm moving on

I've been living on the road now
For nigh on fifteen years
I've had my share of good times
I've shed my share of tears
I made some friends along the way
But I left them far behind me
Now I'm just another derelict
Sleeping in the dirt

(Repeat Chorus)
'Cause the full moon...

There's a place I know
Where the mountains shine
Like pearl in the moonlight
Where the magic rolling river shines
Like silver in the sun
I'm headed up the highway
Back to the north land
Gonna find a place to lay my head
Set my spirit free

(Repeat chorus)
'cause the full moon...

(Repeat chorus)
I said the full moon...

The sad songs make me cry sometimes
But still I'm moving on

3. Tides Tides
Lyrics by J Peter Boles & E. Reynolds
Music by J Peter Boles

She moves in, she moves out
The waves roll in, the waves roll out
She's never really here
She's never really gone
The sun comes up, the sun goes down
Emotions ridin' on a merry-go-round
Is it you or is it me I've found?
(Chorus)
The spice of life's a little taste of dying
You're either winning or losing or laughing or crying
It all ebbs and flows like the tide
She moves in, she moves out
The waves roll in, the waves roll out
She's never really here
She's never really gone
The sand grows hot in the midday sun
Her heart grows cold and she's on the run
This time it's the last straw again
(Repeat Chorus)

(2x) She moves in, she moves out
The waves roll in, the waves roll out
She's never really here
She's never really gone
(Repeat Chorus)

The sun comes up, the sun goes down
Emotions riding on a merry-go-round
Is it you or is it me I've found?

4. Witching Moon Witching Moon
Lyrics & Music by J Peter Boles

My mama used to tell me about the witching moon
Said it turned blood red around harvest time
She said that's when the witches fly
Shrieking in the midnight sky

The moon last night was red and bright
An angry face lookin' through the night
She was calling her witch boy home
Calling her witch boy home

She said where's the boy with the smoky dark eyes?
Has he turned his back, or fallen from the sky?
Boy can't you hear your eagle cry?
Shrieking in the midnight sky?

Boy what'ya doing there with them valley folk?
Grubbin' in the dirt by the heat of the day
Boy come with me and drift away
Boy don't you miss the pale moonlight?
(Repeat first)
Boy can't you hear your eagle cry?
Shrieking in the midnight sky?

5. Empty Roads Empty Roads
Lyrics & Music by J Peter Boles

Looking through the open door
At the cold December rain
Always figured I could bear the pain
But I think I'm wearing thin

Staring down the empty road
Wondering Lord where did she go?
Never spoke nor shed a tear
But she left me standing here

Chorus:
And all she left was the times we shared
I'll carry those memories everywhere
Goodbye babe, please take good care
And don't forget to smile

I saw the change a-comin' on
Her face grew cold as the cold grey dawn
I guess I knew it all along
But still it tore me down

But it does no good to sit and cry
Just another stage of our lives gone by
Better times lie around the bend
I'd best just travel on

(chorus)
'Cause all she left were the times we shared . . . .

Well I heard it's nice down in Mexico
Gonna leave my troubles beside the road
Forget about the winter rain
Follow the warm sunshine

(chorus)
Because I still have the times we shared . . . .

6. Mother Lode Mother Lode
Artist - J Peter Boles
Lyrics & Music by Robb MacKay, © 1974

'm your average miner man, and I dig the best I can
But my cup ain't n'ere been overflowed
One day soon there'll come a time
When I go down in the mine
And I finally strike that mother lode.

I've been workin' every day
And this dust has been my pay
And I'm feelin' just like old Tom Joad
But that feeling's gonna pass
When I find that one crevasse
And I tangle with that mother lode.

Chorus:
When each new day comes along,
Boys I'm up and I am gone
I'm rollin' down another road
And when all this work is done
I'll be sittin' in the sun
With that legendary mother lode.

I've been pannin' every creek
I've been hikin' every peak
I've been workin' in most every mode
When this hole of mine connects
I'll be paying my respects
To that great elusive mother lode.

Though the cuttin' could get rough
I ain't here to play no bluff
I've got horses that just can't be whoa-ed
With my tools the finest known
I can cut through any stone
And I'm headed toward that mother lode.

(Repeat Chorus)

I've got boulders to be pushed
I've got whackers to be bushed
I've got bandits to be buffaloed
But these foes don't ever last
I can lose 'em awful fast
When I'm lookin' for that mother lode.

When I hit that piece of ground
I'm gonna buy the house a round
I'm gonna pay back every man I owe
Then I'll grab my easy chair
I'll go back and sit and stare
At the beauty of that mother lode.

(Repeat Chorus)

But when all this work is done
I'll be sitting in the sun
With that legendary mother lode.

7. Bard Lane Bard Lane / Sweet Eagle Dreams
Music & Lyrics by J Peter Boles

Sprinkler in the front yard singing songs about the rain
Children in the backyard crying out in joy and pain
There stands the man that I used to be
He's staring past the fences, out towards the hills
His eyes full of questions, his mailbox full of bills
He wouldn't trade this life, but he can't help but wonder sometimes...

Do my friends remember me in Kawaihae?
Is the sun glowing warm in the tropical sky?
Can the L.A. freeway really set me free?
Can the Ventura River take me down to the sea?

Like a chicken in the barnyard dreaming sweet eagle dreams
His spirit takes wing, he's sailing the breeze
He's looking down at the mountains of Northern New Mexico
He remembers hearing once from an old Navajo
You can take the beauty with you, wherever you go.

He sees the sun going down like an artist's dream
The pearly crescent moon begins to gleam
Now, the L.A. freeway's going to set us free
The Ventura River's flowing down to the sea

8. Snow White Dove Snow White Dove
Artist - J Peter Boles
Written by Bob Ferguson

Noah he drifted
On the sea many days
He searched for land
In various ways
Troubles he had some
But he wasn't forgotten
God sent down his love
On the wings of a dove

Chorus:
On the wings of a snow white dove
He sends his pure sweet love
A sign from above
On the wings of a dove

When Jesus went down to
The river to pray
He was baptized by John
In the Jordan that day
And when it was done
Then God blessed his son
He sent down his love
On the wings of a dove

(chorus)

When troubles beset us
When evil comes
The body grows weak
And the spirit grows numb
When these things beset us
God doesn't forget us
He sends down his love
On the wings of a dove

(chorus)

Sign from above
On the wings of a dove

9. Last Hobo Last Hobo
Music & Lyrics by J Peter Boles

Chorus:
The train's run out of whistle
The track's run out of time
I'm sittin' on a Greyhound bus
Hobo days are dyin'

On the seat beside me
Is everything I own
Reflection in the window shows
Shows a man without a home

I asked the driver to blow his horn
But he just looks at me strange
He knows the bus ain't got the soul
Of a screamin' midnight train

I've heard the whistle echo down
The Feather River canyon
Heard her screaming at the mountain
Heard her rattle on down the grade

The Allman Brothers Band
Sings that song about a ramblin' man
But those days are gone
It's just a song
I'll never live that way again

(Chorus)

10. Old Man’s Song Old Man’s Song
Music & Lyrics by J Peter Boles

My father died on a lonesome highway
A rumbling freight train in his eyes
I stood and stared down an empty driveway
A three-year-old too young to cry

I was going grey before the thought could find me
And I could question the why or when
You can't relive what's never happened
It's hard to lose what's never been

But we can sing a song for the ones before us
Who never saw their children grow
They missed the joys, the sins and sorrows
That lead us through this world below.

Now I've traveled through the shining mountains
Stared at the gutter through a drunk man's eyes
From the silver clouds to the deep black hollow
All I know for sure is we're born to die.

So let's sing a song for the ones before us
Who never saw their children grow
They missed the joys, the sins and sorrows
That lead us through this world below.

11. Take Care of My Brother Take Care of My Brother
Lyrics by J Peter Boles & Joseph W. Boles
Music by J Peter Boles

Back in 1969 the boys went off to Vietnam
Some of them were comin' home, the lucky ones were dyin'
Drugs and fire, blood and gore, what'd my buddies die for
Was it really for the best or for the politicians?

His mama was an artist, you know they were connected
She dreamed a ghost ship driftin' above the Golden Gate
They sure looked different comin' back, beyond the age of innocence
These fine upstanding young men don't look like frightened boys

(chorus)
Blue Pacific Ocean wash away the memories
Hot August sunshine burn away the war
Take care of my brother, Lord, help him see the blue sky
Help him to remember what he's livin' for.

Sun melts into the sea, red oil calms the water
But he sees red tracers streakin' through the shadow light.

I was barely 13, so hard for me to understand
This fine upstanding young man was just a frightened boy
He didn't talk about it none, to me it was a mystery
But something's hiding in his eyes there behind the door

(chorus)
Blue Pacific Ocean wash away the memories
Hot August sunshine burn away the war
Take care of our brothers, Lord, help 'em see the blue sky
Help 'em to remember what they're livin' for.

     (Innkeeper's Story)
Warm Winter's Eve in December (Innkeeper's Story)
Music & Lyrics by Robb "Rabbit" MacKay
Performed by J Peter Boles

The carpenter hastened his fair bride to town
'Cause she'd just begun with her labor
Saying I need a place for my wife to lay down
And I'll gladly repay you your favor

Well I don't want your favor the innkeeper said
'Cause my rooms only go to the spender
And if you don't have the money you'll not have the bed
On this warm winter's eve in December.

But it's not for myself that I'm asking you friend
But my wife is expecting a baby
And it's all of your tables and chairs I will mend
If but only you'll see to her safety

Then if you'd like to stay in the barn for the while
You're welcome my stable to enter
But it better well be that you wife is with child
On this warm winter's eve in December

So away in the manger he made her a bed
From the few extra robes he was wearing
And by the halo of light from the star overhead
He awaited the babe she'd be bearing

The suddenly bursting from the heaven on high
The angels rejoiced in full number
For the new baby born under Bethlehem sky
On this warm winter's eve in December

Then unto this scene came the host of the inn
In a truly repenting behavior
And he knelt and he prayed for forgiveness of sin
And a smile crossed the face of the Savior

His spirit was lifted, his burden was shorn
And he knew he would always remember
The night that the Son of the Father was born
On this warm winter's eve in December

The night that the Son of the Father was born
On this warm winter's eve in December.
